School Media Center Mission Statement
It is the Mission of the I.S. 230-Q School Media Center to
fulfill the needs of the entire I.S. 230-Q community in this age of
information, reinforcing the school’s mission of creating a community of active
learners. The open access of the center and its collections strongly encourages
PRIDE. [the Promotion of Reading and the skills of Inquiry, Discovery and
Exploring multiple resources.] Critical Thinking is an integral process of
learning and through its use students will understand how to DRIVE. [Determine
Relevance and Investigate further, Verify and Extract the appropriate
information.] Bibliographic and research instruction, in collaboration with the
subject teachers, ensures that the skills learned are applied directly to the
pedagogical needs of the students. Through use of ALL forms of media to
supplement curricular and extra-curricular needs, individual community members’
requirements are addressed. This assists in fulfilling the mandated standards
of reading for pleasure and reading for information and comprehension.
