Objective:
The students will distinguish different types of resources focusing on online resources.
Opening:
Mini-Lesson:
Using a model of the Hershey chocolate company, the students will understand the difference between different databases and search techniques. They also will have the opportunity to use a search engine to discover information regarding their selected company.
Mini Lesson:
1. Discuss the different formats of resource.
2. Have the students form groups by topic.
3. Explain the procedures for using the computers.
4. Distribute the computers to each group.
5. Introduce the resources the students can use, including on-line databases.
Work Period:
6. Allow the students to think about questions they will be asking and how they can get facts about their topic.
7. Introduce the appropriate search techniques for use in databases and search engines, including the "keys" to validate legitimate information.
8. If there are multiple students addressing similar issues, they will work in small.
9. While the students are working in groups, allow them to inquire regarding the use of specific resources for
research.
10. If time allows, have the students to use the word processing program on the laptops to begin formulating their questionnaires using their constructive notes.
11. If time allows, when the students have completed their questionnaires and have them save to disks for later
printing.
12. Allow the students to return the computers to the cart and begin the share-outs.

After the students have completed viewing the website, and discussed the details needed for their projects, they will
share the characteristics and how they can use the different resources.
This sharing will allow the students to explain and demonstrate how will formulate relevant uses of resources for their individual issues.
